Our News Sept 15, 2016

Down on the Farm

-- Prahlad Prabhu, one of our cowherd men, told a wonderful story about the cows.  He takes responsibility to rotate the herds to ensure they have fresh green grass.  With the drought this year, this is a constant challenge. When the retired herd was released on a new patch of pasture they ran like small children, kicking up their hooves in pure pleasure for a new green pasture. We appreciate all the cowherds do to care for our beloved cows!
-- Jhulan yatra Prabhu looked out her kitchen window to view an amazing sight. After the baby calves had finished eating their quota of daily grains, the peacocks were joined by the neighborhood groundhog, "chubby", in relishing the remnants left in the bowl. The animals at Gita Nagari are not ordinary beings. They express no animosity to each other and cooperate in awe inspiring ways.
-- Our week included Radhastami, a community picnic at Moyer park, and the Appearance of Srila Bhaktivinoda Thakur.
-- Mother Yasoda rose from her sick bed to help cook the feast for Radhastami.  Sachi Priya and Priya Manjari also came to help. Mother Vrajalila did the cut up before she went to facilitate the program which included an ecstatic class and world class kirtan. Keshi Mardana Prabhu prepared his world famous curd pakoras and Yasodeva surprised Radharani with an amazing cake! Everyone exhibited the cooperation and teamwork that makes the Gita Nagari community so special.  Taraka Prabhu and his family donated many gifts in the name of Radharani and helped to stock our kitchen with needed supplies. Krishna Namacharya Prabhu sent Jasmine buds to decorate the altar. Mayapur Lila and Jhulan Yatra Prabhus did an outstanding job decorating the Temple.   I hope you can join us next year for this wonderful celebration.
-- HH Bhakti Tirtha Swami planned a yearly picnic for the devotees to gather and associate while having a blast.  Mayapur Lila organized this year's picnic to carry on this tradition. Moyer Park in Port Royal was filled with laughter and good vibes as the devotees shared time together. Put this event on your calendar for next summer.
-- Patri das and his friends from Nepal have been visiting Gita Nagari. Prabhu gave a stirring Srimad Bhagavatam class and shared a slide show and discussion in the evening.  He is certainly empowered to bring the enthusiasm to his preaching and kirtan.  We look forward to their return.
-- Yesterday, the devotees fasted 'til noon and learned how Srila Bhaktivinoda Thakur set in motion the spreading of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu's mission throughout the world. He made so many contributions to our Sampradaya and it's expansion to the west. We are very mindful of our responsibility to share Krishna Consciousness with everyone we host at Gita Nagari.  Srila Bhaktivinoda Thakur Ki Jai!

Our retreat season has extended into November, and groups are still contacting us to visit Gita Nagari. We are thrilled to host so many wonderful people who can appreciate our commitment to cow protection and sustainable living while working to develop a real attachment to devotional service. Please pray for us that we can be happy and content with simple living and high thinking.
We need your help in preparing for the winter season.  Since we are hosting a new group each week, we have not been able to process the heating supplies needed for the coming cold.  We are contracting with some local men to bring partially ready wood for heating the Temple, and we request your help to acquire more before winter.  If you can donate to help us, we will be eternally grateful. Please contact our website at www.gitanagari.org to help as you are able.

Have a wonderful Krishna Conscious Week!!!
